Watchmen Led Me To Love

Alright, so it's not love, exactly. But it's jazz. I've always been a huge jazz fan. I watched Watchmen the other day (five stars!!) and downloaded the soundtrack today. It features a snazzy tune titled Pirate Jenny by Nina Simone. Simone released the song in the heat of the civil rights movement, a strong move as the song describes killing the rich white people the protagonist of the song works for.

She also has an exquisite version of My Funny Valentine, one of my favorite songs. I really should have lived in the 80s or the 40s. Honestly.

I can't find any videos of these songs, but I highly recommend downloading them. Pirate Jenny takes a few times to really get into, but it's worth it, believe me.

Since Watchmen inspired this post, here's a track list of songs featured in the movie. There are a couple that were featured in trailers for the movie, so don't get your panties in a twist if you can't match up the songs with any of the scenes. And kuddos to the wonderful person who posted this on Amazon!!

1) Take a Bow - Muse
2) The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins
3) Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
4) The Times They Are a-Changin - Bob Dylan
5) 99 Luftballons - Nena
6) The Sound Of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
7) Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
8) I'm Your Boogie Man - KC & The Sunshine Band
9) You're My Thrill - Billie Holiday
10) Pruit Igoe & Prophecies - Philip Glass
11) Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears for Fears
12) Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen
13) Clyde - Waylon Jennings
14) All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
15) Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance
16) First We Take Manhattan - Leonard Cohen (I've been told the REM version is better)
17) Pirate Jenny - Nina Simone

Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix-what more can you want? And even if you don't like the movie all that much, the credits montage set to the tune of The Times They Are a-Changin will bring you to tears.

Hanson is back! Well, at least one of them...

I know! Two posts in one day! But on to a much better subject.

I have discovered the band Tinted Windows. It's a side projects of Taylor Hanson's, and includes Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and James Iha of Smashing Pumkins!

I know what you're thinking-how has this happened, and the world hasn't exploded yet? I don't know the answer to that questions, but here's a tidbit of what to expect from this musical group:

Kind of Girl

Messing With My Head

Personally, Messing With My Head is my favorite so far, but we'll see what happens after I hear the rest of the cd.

The One Where I Won't Mind If You Take Me Home

Alright!! Two posts in two days?? Don't get used to it!

I am an avid Gossip Girl watcher. Recently, a singer by the name of Ida Maria was featured on a commercial, and I had to look up the song immediatly. The name of the song was I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked, and I fell in love.

I quickly discovered another favorite, titled Stella.

I have also found that all of the videos for her songs are pretty interesting, unlike those that you watch once and then hate the song forever (Black Eyed Peas, I'm lookin at you...)

Happy listening!

This is what it's all about

I love music, movies, and books.

What I love even more is finding new favorites, and sharing them with everyone I know.

And that's what it's all about. Every few days, hopefully, I'll post my new favorites, or an old one.

I hope you all enjoy the posts, and if you have any suggestions on what I should check out, let me know!!
