Watchmen Led Me To Love

Alright, so it's not love, exactly. But it's jazz. I've always been a huge jazz fan. I watched Watchmen the other day (five stars!!) and downloaded the soundtrack today. It features a snazzy tune titled Pirate Jenny by Nina Simone. Simone released the song in the heat of the civil rights movement, a strong move as the song describes killing the rich white people the protagonist of the song works for.

She also has an exquisite version of My Funny Valentine, one of my favorite songs. I really should have lived in the 80s or the 40s. Honestly.

I can't find any videos of these songs, but I highly recommend downloading them. Pirate Jenny takes a few times to really get into, but it's worth it, believe me.

Since Watchmen inspired this post, here's a track list of songs featured in the movie. There are a couple that were featured in trailers for the movie, so don't get your panties in a twist if you can't match up the songs with any of the scenes. And kuddos to the wonderful person who posted this on Amazon!!

1) Take a Bow - Muse
2) The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins
3) Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
4) The Times They Are a-Changin - Bob Dylan
5) 99 Luftballons - Nena
6) The Sound Of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
7) Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
8) I'm Your Boogie Man - KC & The Sunshine Band
9) You're My Thrill - Billie Holiday
10) Pruit Igoe & Prophecies - Philip Glass
11) Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears for Fears
12) Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen
13) Clyde - Waylon Jennings
14) All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
15) Desolation Row - My Chemical Romance
16) First We Take Manhattan - Leonard Cohen (I've been told the REM version is better)
17) Pirate Jenny - Nina Simone

Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix-what more can you want? And even if you don't like the movie all that much, the credits montage set to the tune of The Times They Are a-Changin will bring you to tears.
